Hi folks,
I've been out of programming and graphics for a while, having a break and doing other stuff, but I just thought I'd browse the zbrush central image gallery, and my jaw has hit the floor. Here's a link to just one thread concerning characters designed for Assassin's Creed:
http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=048467
And there's loads of other threads just like this one. Outrageously good stuff, eh?
I remember way back, must be 20 years ago, when I first got into programming, and games were just little blobs of monochrome pixels chugging across a single 2d screen... I'd read articles about how in the future we'd have cyberspace and it would be indistinguishable from reality, and I just thought nah we'll never have computers fast enough to do that. But here it is, right on my laptop screen. I know youngsters might look at this stuff and think, why's he raving about these images so much? But from my longer perspective I just can't get over how much computers and graphics have advanced.
Bring on the Singularity!

Somehow I'm afraid of a world where we can create truly photo realistic human models ... The possibilities for misuse are surely great :|

this is bad to be too realistic. like perfectly realistic human enemies in an fps. itll look like your actually killing a person if its too real.

Isn't that kinda like saying all movies should use animation instead of actors? Because if someone gets shot it is too 'real'? What about the actors performing the scenes, they fire actual firearms (albeit blanks) at real people... Even children perform scenes like this.
I think all types of graphics are good, it is very specific to the individual game. The closer to reality they can make a game look, the more options developers have to match a game to an art style.
Game are interactive thus it's bigger deal than movies in that sense though. But we are far from having this quality characters acting in natural way in games.

I see you ignored my bit about actors in movies acting out scenes of violence and shooting weapons. Why is that not a 'big deal' compared to games?

Just wait till something even newer comes out, making it even more
accessable to not so good scuptors, which will happen.

I am afraid I am not quite sure what you are saying here. Could you please check your spelling and try to explain your point in a more verbose way?

As if anyone believed in photos anymore anyway..
Well.. Add animation to it and you are on a new level of fakeable media :)

Looks verry nice, that`s one talented guy. To bad these are high resolution modles and it will be a while beforce we see models of this actual quality in games at playeble framerates:)

I didn't ignore it. There is a difference in being a bystander (movies) watching someones brain being blown off and you doing it yourself (games).

It is pretty obvious you are not getting what I am trying to say. I will attempt to lay it out more clearly for you.

Movies are not magically 'there'. They must be made. To make them, they use actors.
Actors perform scenes. In violent movies, these actors perform the actions you see in the movie.
Said violent actions are also done by children in certain movies.
Would you contend that the games these children play, violent ones, potentially hurt them more than acting out
physically and mentally (They need to emotionally get 'into' the scene to have it be believable footage) scenes
from violent movies?

I think soon will be possible create movies with dead actors,
like: realistic-"Bruce Lee" again in new movies. Will be totally awesome! ;-)
ooo got a mate working on that :)

Ooh, but that's not the case. The experience you get of the final cut and edited movie is quite different how actor perceives it. Anyway. I'm talking about the consumers here, not developers/actors. It's a moot point to compare apples with oranges.
