Hi,
I am seeking a game developer who is interested in creating a psychological horror game with me.
WHY I'M POSTING:
If I were to form a team (even of two) I myself am prepared to handle the art elements- sprites, 3d models, music, storyline and scripted sequences (that which I am most excited about)- I am very good and have experience with all of these elements. I have samples of my artwork, music, movies, ect if desired.
However, I am certainly not a scripter. I've been searcing for a program that allows you to create your game without use of scripting/programming, but even then the work seems to be too much for me alone... even learning how to use the programs is a lot of work. I've looked into programs like Blender and Quest3d for non-programming game creation programs, and I easily get discouraged from trying to learn the program (while I'm constantly asking myself: Is this program right for me? Is there something easier out there? Will using this save me the most time?
But if I had someone to work with who I could share my ideas with- preferably someone who actually knows how to use a game creation program- then I think my ideas can come to fruition, and I won't be discouraged.
IDEAS ABOUT THE GAME
I just recently starting thinking about the idea, and can give a brief synopsis of the general story and the type of game it is.
Gameplay:
-First person view.
-Occasional violence that is mainly out of self defense.
-Perhaps some puzzles.
-all scripts and cinematics will take place in the first person view while you control the mouse (and sometimes the character as well)
-Ghosts, delusions
-Should play out someone like a horror movie, with emphasis on the story
- The horror is partly inspired by the movie Kairo (aka Pulse (Japanese version)).
Story (of level one at least): You are a man who goes into a hospital late at night in response to a phonecall, when there is hardly any staff (maybe to pick someone up). You speak to the staff who tells you where the person is. However, you start seeing things- shadows playing tricks on you, it seems. The delusions seem to happen more and more, and become frightening (they might start to look like figures in human form). (I would plan to start out with the delusions ranging from shadows on the floor and walls to manipulations of objects in the environment and also sounds).
After reaching the room where you thought this person would be, you find no one. You talk to the staff and they seem to not know what you are talking about. You tell them that the other staff members told you about this person you came to pick up- they call the members who you spoke with (supposedly) before, and (at this point they call them. After the phone conv, they tell you that the staff members saw you come in, but didn't speak to you (I'll have to think more on how this could happen).
You thank the employee and decide to leave. Yet you start having delusions again and realize something is very wrong. As you begin to leave, you see something that scares you so much you fall over and faint (a shadow of a ghost quickly approaching you in the hallway perhaps). You wake up on the hospital bed, and a doctor/nurse tells you what happened "you blacked out for some reason". While you are talking to the doctor you see another dellusion and point to it in the middle of the conversation and describe what you saw. He eventually decides that you are just delusional and maybe tells you about how to treat it. He leaves the room for a moment and nothing strange happens. You go to get a treatment and you begin to leave the building.. but what about that phonecall? You decide to ask the staff again about it and they still don't know what you're saying.
Upon leaving the delusions happen again, and your character becomes very scared. You encounter a staff member and ask him/her to accompany you out of the hospital (which is several stories).. he/she questions your manhood and says that he/she is busy. You brace up and attempt to leave.
(a possible idea)... As you are leaving you are giving yourself mental notes (in audible speech or via text) on how to get out.. simply because you're scared. For example, you are just about to enter a desolate hallway that eventually leads to the stairs or elevator. Your character automatically stops and peers past the door, and says to himself.. "maybe... maybe if I just run". That's just an example of temporary loss of controls and character dialogue to himself.
I haven't thought of the rest of the story, but that's just the beginning. I would like the delusions to become real at times and eventually they can come to harm you so you must find means of either self defense or escape. The characters around you start getting attacked by these ghosts and others start seeing them as well. The ghosts then start taking more physical forms than shadows (I have some 'creatures' in mind). We eventually learn something like "the time is right for the ghosts to come into this world (still working on the reason). Anyway, I'm sure I will figure it out soon.
WHY IS IT DIFFERENT?
- I think too often game creators follow a certain formula in order to not confuse their players, and it leads to a sort of subtle predictability. This game, though, should confuse players. They should question whether what they see is a delusion or something real- or whether something is actually a danger to them or not (but not too extreme to be detrimental to the gameplay).
- Few games present a view into the mind of someone who seems to be delusional. Also, I have played horror games and watched horror movies before, and I always tell myself (wow, I could have made this so much scarier). My career interest is in film, but I don;t plan to make horror movies.. I would like to try a game though.
-The horror elements focus on the mysterious- what is unseen. Too often horror games attempt to scare you by presenting a monster which, in the gamers mind, just becomes another "enemy", or even just another "3d model". However I would like to sort of hide the scary beings making the player unsure how to classify them... I'd like to surround them in mystery (even visually).
-I played a demo of fear- you see a scripted horror sequence and you're not really afraid.. I think this is because the player you are controlling doesn't respond, so why should you? But I would like this player you control to react- to fall down, cry out, ect. I am still debating whether the controls should be momentarily taken away from the player while the character runs and hides somewhere... or something. Or perhaps you approach a door, and your character is too reluctant to open it and you must try several times. I would also like "scared breathing sounds".
- I hate in horror movies how the protaginist can see something, and someone says "what's the matter" and he/she says "oh it was nothing". I want the protagonist here to be very open (the characters can decide whether to believe him).
Thanks for reading this long post. Please let me know what you think, if you have questions or want some concept art. And definitely let me know if interested in teaming up!

THanks!
