Goole is launches an email, gmail is what google calles it, capable of storing 1 GB of email messages!

Here's more information on gmail:

And here is a link to it
http://gmail.google.com/

I first thought that it's an aprile fools joke... but not any more!

i just read about it today, which made me think about a hoax, too. it seems to be a serious thing though, afaik. i don't take their word for the gb of storage but i trust google to create an optimum webmail service

when you go to http://gmail.google.com/ it says it there, so i think its pretty official
Don't throw anything away.
1000 megabytes of free storage so you'll never need to delete another message.

your right... think about it, when people hear about that, I'm pretty sure millions of people will start signing up, they'll even create multiple accounts. So lets say there will be 500 Million accounts, that means Goggle is going to have to spend 500 Million GBs of storage, I don't think any server would be able to handle that much storage  .

i imagine gmail being used for illegal exchange of files... :)
if i was them i'd put a restriction on the maximum size of a single mail.
but seriously, google knows very well that almost nobody on the planet will produce 1gb of mail

exactly. If this restriction is small enough, say 1mb, who's going to have 1000 emails in a webmail account? not enough to make it awkward for google.

Oh, and AFAIK it's not the google april fool, this (http://www.google.com/jobs/lunar_job.html) is. This was announced on the 31st, and has been in too many major news sources to be fake. If it was, they'd lose out big time.

thats only you that think that.

if we would not delete our work-mails here, we would have mails of the last three years, going over several gigabytes for some users.

davepermen : no question about that but joe average won't accumulate 1gb of mail

hehe.. well.. :D just checked, and got some gigabytes free just by letting 2 (TWO!!) people clean up their mail accounts :D

i doubt that any serious company would use a webmail service...

i knew that there was a catch... google not only plans on letting you search through your mail with google's "advanced" search algorithms but also insert context related ads by analysing your mail with google's "advanced" search algorithms. they wouldn't even be alowed to do that in germany. i spit in google's face for this one
