Hi guys, my name's Adele i would like to inform you...

VIEW: Turin becomes the European Capital of Digital Media
More than 100 guests from all over the world, these include three Oscar award winners, and just as many events, including previews, presentations, conferences and round tables. From Paul Topolos, one of the creative minds of Ratatouille and the new highly awaited Wall-E, to the brilliant Will Wright, the “father” of outstanding videogames like Sim City, The Sims and Spore. As well as Brad Lewis, the producer of Ratatouille and the director of Cars 2, scheduled to be shown in cinemas in 2012. A general overview of the future, passing from animation cinema to videogames, from industrial design to visual art.
Turin, Italy – The digital culture universe presented by the key world representatives: VIEW Conference is all of this, an event directed by María Elena Gutiérrez and organised thanks to the contribution made by the Piedmont Region, the Province of Turin, the City of Turin, ‘Compagnia di San Paolo’, ‘Fondazione CRT’, and the Chamber of Commerce of Turin, and will be held in Turin from 11 to 14 November. More than 100 dates are foreseen, animated by videogame gurus, directors, masters of special effects, visual artists and University lecturers. Such a concentration of figures of this status has never been seen before in our country, ready to measure themselves against the general public, to reveal their view of the future. It is no mere chance that the event’s organisation expects approximately 30 thousand visitors to attend, more than twice the number compared with last year's edition.

Animation cinema: the seventh art… digital

Pixar and PDI Dreamworks, world giants that have changed the face of animation cinema, will present a preview of ‘the making of’ their new projects, including Wall-E (Disney-Pixar) and Madagascar 2 (Dreamworks). And it will be the same directors, producers and artistic directors that reveal their secrets. Brad Lewis, Paul Topolos, Lucia Modesto (the first is the producer and the second is the matte painter of the Oscar award-winning film Ratatouille; lastly, Modesto is the technical director of the characters of the film Shrek that also received an Oscar award) will be the principal players of this section. Paul Topolos, the “digital painting” wizard will describe the creation of the spatial landscapes of Wall-E, a film that has been highly acclaimed by the critics and the general public in the USA and will be shown in Italian cinemas on 17th October. Whereas, Brad Lewis will talk about his experience as a producer, ranging from Antz, the film that marked the debut of DreamWorks in the field of digital animation to Ratatouille by Pixar. Lucia Modesto is the technical director of the characters of the Shrek trilogy and a key figure in the Madagascar team, one of the greatest successes achieved by Dreamworks, and she will lead the public by hand to discover Madagascar 2: Escape 2 Africa, expected to be shown in cinemas in Italy next December. In addition, Graham Jack, senior technical director will be a guest of VIEW 2008; Graham Jack worked with the visual effects of Harry Potter and the chalice of fire and, as the Lead Artist with Harry Potter and the order of the Phoenix, as well as supervisor of the computer graphics sequences in Batman Begins. His most recent work together with Guillermo del Toro is with Hellboy II: The Golden Army released by Universal Studios, and ‘the making of’ this film will be the subject of his presentation at VIEW.

Videogames: the art of interactive imagination

The videogames section is a candidate to become one of the major points of strength of VIEW this year. The elite of electronic games will be in Turin thanks to the co-operation with Jaime D’Alessandro, a journalist and an expert of the sector. Starting with Will Wright, Louis Castel, David Cage and Chris Taylor, to mention only a few names. These are the creators of videogames such as Spore and The Sims (Wright), Omikron: The Nomad Soul, Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain (Cage), Blade Runner, the series of Command & Conquer and Boom Blox (Castle), Total Annihilation, Dungeon Siege and Supreme Commander (Taylor), Devil May Cry, Resident Evil 4, Devil Kings (Kobayashi). Videogames which represented a turning point in their respective genres. It is sufficient to remember that The Sims alone sold over 100 million copies. Whereas, on the Italian front, Riccardo Cangini, the founder of Artematica will be a guest at VIEW. Artematica is one of the first and one of the major independent software houses present in Italy. This Company produces and develops multiplatform videogames for a well differentiated line-up, frequently based on international licences and specialising in the graphic adventure genre. The Company's videogames are published throughout the world by partners like Ubisoft, Dreamcatcher, DTP-AG and Micro Application.

Multimedia and Visual Culture: digital culture experiments with new directions

This year VIEW Conference explores the new forms of visual expression and digital culture in a section created ad hoc. The programme for the Visual Culture section foresees the participation of numerous top ranking guests, these include two Oscar award winners, and some of the leading companies in the cinema and IT industry: Glenn Entis, the co-founder of PDIDreamWorks, where he worked together with Spielberg, and a pioneer of technological innovation in motion pictures that earned him an Oscar, is now Chief Visual Technical Officer at Electronic Arts, the world's leading company in the interactive software sector. David Salesin, a professor at the Department of Information Technology and Engineering at Washington University, has worked as a senior researcher in Microsoft Research and is the Senior Principal Scientist at Adobe since 2005, where he directs the Technologies Lab. Salesin has also worked at Lucasfilm and at Pixar, where he contributed to successes such as Tin Toy (awarded with an Oscar) and Young Sherlock Holmes. Lastly, Michael Rubin, a University graduate in neurosciences, who began his career at Lucasfilm achieving international fame as the author of the renowned text Droidmaker: George Lucas and the Digital Revolution. The other exceptional guests of the Visual Culture section also include Bruce Grenville, of the Vancouver Art Gallery, the curator of a cutting edge event like KRAZY! A cutting edge event, mid-way between a show and an artistic exhibition, and has popular visual culture as its centrepiece, mixing strip cartoons with graphic novels, computer and videogames, manga and anime, and Brenda Harger, a lecturer in entertainment technology at the Carnegie Mellon Entertainment Technology Center, who will combine theatrical improvisation with game design in an innovative form, guaranteeing a unique experience for the general public.
But VIEW Conference will also enable visitors to test themselves thanks to numerous completely free workshops, organised by the most significant companies operating in the sector, such as Softimage, Autodesk, Nvidia, Google and by the professionals of Italian facilities like the University of Turin, Turin Polytechnic, and ‘Istituto Europeo di Design’ (European Design Institute).
