Now I know the concept of making a mmorpg is very far fetched but to my understanding I think a good idea + a good team of people can strife for success. On to my idea:

I have come up with a unique concept for a MMORPG which I think some may find interesting. It would be a zombie based mmorpg which in my eyes has never been tackled with complete passion. I have come up with the title "Dead World Online" I know its pretty much a cliche but couldn't think of anything better. The whole story line is made and its not one of those old scientists doing some experiment and then it breaks and everyone gets infected crap its got a twist to it. I have chosen suitable classes, Cities, Currency, Attributes. Need some help on spell and ability allocations because i'm not 100% what to choose. I think it would be fun choosing the different armour and weapons with a group of people because we can go all out because of the time it is set the game is set in. Other things like PvPing and Raids have also been planned already.

If your interested by this idea want to know more email me at: dominic_zimm@hotmail.com or just add me on msn with that email address.

All feedback would be appreciated, negative as well :)

Another week, another guy looking for an MMO team. You have 2 choices:

a: Go back and play MMO's in your fantasy world.

b:Learn computer programming in the real world by finding a STARTING book on computer programming.

No one in their right mind is going to lend their talent to someone who's sole talent is playing MMO's.

Thats a bit harsh fireside. I didn't see anything in the original post where the poster described his skills (or lack of). It appears you are assuming he doesn't know how to program and assuming he does have MMO playing talent. I do understand where you are coming from but surprised you would make claims that are not necessarily justified.

Well I did ask for the negative feedback and I can see where he is coming from. Im using trying my best to get something to work by posting in different places. Yes I do have some progamming skills, sorry for not mentioning it.

but my main goal is to just have fun atleast "trying" to make something like this work.

Left 4 Dead
It's a valve game that just came out yesterday and is very similar to what you're describing, except it's not an MMO.

What everyone (like fireside) is trying to say is that about every 2 days (which if you hang out at GameDev, you may think we're spoiled here) someone with no former experience programming announces an MMORPG project that never even gets past 4 pages of design and certainly not into any workable demo.

Anyway, feel free to pursue whatever you want but understand that we get hostile to these kind of posts because the abundance of them is just nauseating. As a positive note though you're post isn't nearly as bad as the arrogant 12 year olds that come on speaking l33t, they're the ones that ruin everything.

Deductive reasoning. If he could program, he would know what is involved in making an MMO. If he didn't play MMO's, he wouldn't come up with the story.

Closing this thread...anyways, Domzimmer, if you want to know more about the challenges of MMORPG development there are plenty of resources linked from other threads on this forum.

I understand how you must feel about my post being another one of those "mmorpg ideas" but I just thought I would give it a try. You never know what will happen. I'm just trying to be a bit more "proffesional" then the other people who are doing it which I don't really think I achieved but hey :) .

To be completely honest I didn't know what L4D was but as soon as you sent that post I hit it up on google. It actually seems like a really interesting game. Wouldn't expect Valve to be making a zombie based horror game.

Thanks for the positive note though :)
