Ive learnt c and direct x... all i gotta do now is get off my lazy ass and make my damn game.
I know lots of guys here make really good stuff, its why i post here.
Theres nothing n00b you could say to me that would teach me anymore, i just gotta go do my own work and get what i can off the floor.
My only advice is that you need to pack artists... without artists you cant have a game... and it makes good sense to learn some artistic skills yourself or youll be missing something.
thanks, 2d live on.

I agree with learning a little bit about 2d art to be able to bring game ideas to fruition. There are a few free programs that may help with this. Inkscape is one. A lot of people can do better at combining shapes rather than trying to draw with a pencil. Simple animations can be made by rotating or moving some of the parts of the drawing. Many games can be written with fairly abstract shapes. There are also some free sprite sites around but things like that can be somewhat stifling because you tend to write the game around the sprite and the game never has an original feel to it.

Rouncer,
Your post just seems a bit dramatic, and your also started a thread recently that seemed quite erratic. Furthermore, even though I am many many times more knowledgeable about making games than when I first came to this forum and am currently making a game in my spare time, I still find some very interesting and deep threads here and I still post the occasional question here because sometimes Google doesn't have the answer.
Other than that, go make a game (and please share it with us)! It is very true that this forum is lacking the artistic side of game design. Not just the creation of art, but figuring out how to get art assets into game and figuring out how to make art make a game more enjoyable is a very large part of game development. John Carmak is, in my opinion, an excellent example of a brilliant game programmer who doesn't know a thing about the value of art in game design.

I thought the background was a little distracting, myself. I'm not a heavy arcade fan so maybe that wouldn't bother most people. Nice work, though. Those kind of games have to have a lot of different power ups and weapon changes to keep me interested, and the levels need to vary quite a bit. Not sure how that would work out as a multi-player game.

I'm a little disappointed in rouncer because I know the moderation is fair on this site. Hope I wasn't involved in what happened with my critique of the video or anything.

Honestly I don't even know what happened. I don't see anything wrong with the last few posts, but then again I know most mods remove the "final straw" threads.

He was making a lot of drunk posts (which I removed). It's only a 24-hour ban; he'll probably be back when he sobers up a bit. (It's also not the first time this has happened.)
