Anyone else here playin' musical instrument?

Hello,

I'm really curious if anyone else here plays some musical instrument? Have you ever tried, or do you play in a band?

I play guitar for some years - nowadays I play mostly my electric one...

It's good old rock classic - F.e. David Gilmour from Pink Floyd played also this-like one ... good old stratocaster. Along with guitar amp - made by Fender (just 15 Watts I think - it's good for practicing, it can also be used on smaller interior stages).
I'm playing mainly on weekends and at free time (though almost none now, just weekends), I don't play in a band - though with friend we played several times for people (in local pub).

I also play digeridoo from time to time (african musical instrument ... the photo is taken from our training room ... don't kill me that I was lazy to make wooden floor there :-/).

btw. My first thread here in Devmaster lounge ... and I'm registered here for almost two years (wow, the time flows quickly)

I used to play Alto Sax from 4th-6th grade and then Tenor Sax from 6th-Senior year of high school. Concert, Marching, and Jazz bands. Don't play anymore, tho I still have an Alto and Tenor sitting around

I play piano and did some concerts back in my youth. I'm also slowly practicing the guitar (acoustic). Not quite into it as much as I am with the piano though. I also love playing around with synthesizers. I like recording my music from the keyboard and guitar and produce some loops with it. I generally throw them into whatever cheap game I make ;)

Violin, for over 10 years, and a teeny bit of piano. I'd love to learn guitar but never had the time. :)

Piano and electric guitar. Unfortunately I started with music when I was already 20+, and I am not talented, so things go very slowly.

Gaiiden, I really like saxes. If I were to play another instrument, it'd be a sax or a cello. Or drums :)

Why dont u use an fm synth, itll make sounds you aint dreamed of. a crusty analogue distortion cant make these sounds, I dont care how good your fingers are...

You are right, but there also exists lots of equivalents from Africa (findings are probably older than when Europans discovered Australia) and Europe.

I was told in shop that the one I use is copy of original found somewhere in Africa.

Anyway digeridoo-like musical instrument can be made from lots of different materials, so there is possiblity that lots of equivalent instruments were made. Though name "digeridoo" should then bear just Australian instrument...

Damn... I did several times (the girls around campfire were begging so much). Anyway I promise that if we ever meet by campfire I won't play songs like this.
Anyway now we play mostly in training room - we got together with one friend and so we're thinking about practicing few songs together and make a concert or two. Genre is of course my favourite - art-rock (even some Pink Floyd covers - High Hopes, Wish you were here and Comfortably Numb).

Nah... I need to learn it until we meet once around the campfire :D (just give me few dozens of years until I learn myself how to growl like that and still keeping the ability of talking after singing this).

Personally, I've been playing classical piano since I was little - mostly Bach and the more moody Chopin pieces these days.

Sadly, though, most band members moved away for studies and work, and it seems no one at university has the time for music anymore.

Yeah FM synthesis definately is something entirely different in terms of glassy to broken sounds :)

However, my favourite distortion comes from attaching a synth with a slight digital distortion sound to an off-the-shelf guitar metal amp. With some finetuning, this doesn't sound like a wanna-be guitar, but gives better distortion than most synths have got built in.


'Dust in the Wind' or 'Smoke on the Water'


That's one of the most annoying things whenever in a musical instrument shop - all those guitar newbies shredding the Smoke on the Water chords over and over again... as well as the "Fuer Elise" players in the piano and keyboard section.
