Good sites of WindowsXP

Yes, normally we discuss the bad sites of WinXP but I find that rather unlogical since XP is bad in it's nature...

But as I reformatted the disk today I found something rather cool (my space is limited - 20 GB so I decided once again to go with XP only :)).

After the installation Win automatically found my Ethernet adapter and initialized LAN connection for it. All that i was supposed to do was to init a new VPN connection to the ISP and voila!!! i was connected :). This is rather cool cause the last time i had to manually spend ~5 hours in searching for capable drivers for my globally unknown chineese Enthernet-card.

So we should admit: there are also 'good' sites in XP!

everyone else just knows its good and its bad, as you should see in everything.

xp by itself is about the best thing microsoft created, and fits the users needs very nice. they did a good job. i'm impressed how useless i look as supporter and administrator sometimes.. :D

Nah, i would say that the best thing MS every created is .NET :) IMO...

You can still use .NET on Linux through Mono, so you don't have to have WinXP to use it. But I do agree that WinXP is a great product.

But I guess to be more specific, I'd say Visual Studio .NET 2003/5 is one of the best products I've used.

And since I have the Universal MSDN subscription, I get access to all microsoft products (from MS-DOS 6.22 to Windows Longhorn & VS.NET 2005), which is pretty nice :D

No I never mentioned DX. I don't think DirectX is something innovative by microsoft. It's more a collaborative effort with the graphics industry.

DirectX will fade away as the newer games start using OpenGL. When DX 8 was released, many architectural changes were made, many of which looked much more similar to OpenGL. Of course, there are still thousands of DX games out there, and it's completeness (graphics, audio, input, etc.) is its primary advantage. That and many cards support DirectX (i.e. integrated graphics chips), but not OpenGL...

XP is a trememdous leap above the previous Windoze 98 and ME, both of which were so buggy that you couldn't open IE for 10 minutes without crashing (believe me...). But there's still a lot that Microsoft is really begin naive about: for example, tabbed browsing for IE. It's been around for, how long?, and Microsoft still doesn't add it to IE (even in the latest SP). XP also has several security vulnerabilities, but most likely it's only a perceived vulnerability due to the vast number of recent viruses.
