I have been developing a girls gaming website, it is still in the early stages of development but I am so excited about it I just had to share it with someone.
My Webpage (http://www.girlzgametoo.com) is a website designed for the gaming girl!!! A great place for girls to come and hang with your girlfriends and talk about pc gaming and female gender gaming issues.
Please have a browse around my website. I live for feedback and want to develop this website to meet Girl Gaming needs.
Cause it is all about the Girlz!!
Thank you,
Serrafina

We have just added a section for game developers
We think it will be very exciting to see what woman developers have to say about what they do.

Apparently if you play a Windows CD backwards you hear satanic messages. You think that's bad? If you play it forwards it installs Windows!
rofl.. that one hit directly into my heart.
oh, and.. about the *hug*ging around in here.. HEY! stop it!
(i want, too..)
(then again.. thats more a P.M.-story, hehe)
it's a nice page. i know some gamer-girls.. dunno if they will add up there.
i'm still searching for the hobby-programming-girl near me.. *w00t* that would rock, hehe :D

Anibus maybe we can find you a programming girl hehe
Things are growing rappidly on the site. We are up to 70+ members and growing daily! Hopefully if I keep posting here we will draw in the developer girl that you all seem to be looking for. It would be really cool to get an opinion from her...the elusive beastess that she is lol

Maybe a man's eyes are more fragile but ouch. You might want to at least consider making an optional toned down on the colors.
@ anubis & dave I hear you guys. I have physically met very few men who actually enjoy programming on their free time and have become good at it. I have never met a woman with these qualities.
All the women near my age (20) I have met have felt that the only thing worth using a computer for more than 20 minutes at a time was the various IM clients unless it is homework. I actively seek out any females in CS department and only one of them has ever written code that was not for an assignment. She wrote a fractal display (which actually was an assignment for a low level course last year). Even she has never written more than that single source file of her own free will.
Maybe I am just bitter, but I will have to see one before I believe that this beastess exists anymore.

wait a sec... so you have met people who didn't enjoy programming at all and became good at it ? sounds like masochism to me...

i invite you to come to my university :)
probably the girls at my univeristy can be lured into game programming... hehe, the plot thickens...

heh, anubis, i know tons of workers who just work because.. they do. and they get good at it. programming is just another form of work (and can, as any sort of work, be hobby, or even art).
but yes, i know some females who like programming and all that. they have, just as i, not enough time to do much..
anubis
08-26-2004, 06:19 AM
huh... i think without passion you will only get so far. you can probably get good at using a language but there is a whole lot more to good programming than just writing code
davepermen
08-26-2004, 06:41 AM
you don't need passion to do your job well. you never needed. but it's helpful to an extend.

I didn't say they are good at it. Almost every one I know in every major does just enough to get by. I find few people in any major that actually have a passion for what they do, they just do it for the paycheck. Rumors about programmers making a lot of money have lured in a lot of people into computer science with passions as mild as "I want to work in computers because they are fun and I use them a lot."
It is sad, but it is true.

that's a really sag thing... but you are right. i see it in my courses as well. at the beginning of first term we had 400 students now 50% are left and many of them still have no clue about computer science

does have good sides, too, to not know much programming girls.. imagine your girlfriend would love programming as you do..
you'd never have sex again! and would pm more than talk (except both have a headset :D)
and who would be my cowboy then? :(
NomadRock
08-26-2004, 03:33 PM
It's worse to get denied sex because she thinks you use the computer too much. Chicks already pm more than talk but if she was a programmer she would have something else to do while on the computer.

wich would result in both sitting in front of pc all the time anyways.. wich is bad. i prefer to have one taking me away from it, rather than supporting it. there's too much RealLife going on..
NomadRock
08-27-2004, 06:45 AM
True, but it is hard being so close to someone who cant even begin to understand your passion.
davepermen
08-27-2004, 06:49 AM
dunny.. my gf's all understood partially my passion. they don't need to understand programming for this. they had own passions, own ways they loved to be creative, and create something. now thats my way to do something..
and they where impressed by the fact that, no clue how, the stuff worked. for them, pc is something magic, so i had to know something special to get it to do what i want.
just as i was impressed to see their work...
well.. haven't impressed a girl for a long time now.. but thats a whole different story :D
oh, and, my first love.. some years back, wants to start coding by herself. she just doesn't have enough time (as she knows, from me, that it takes much time).

The girlfriends I have had were not so understanding. They would just get frustrated with me not being able to comprehend how I could possibly enjoy it. They never did understand just how much work it was either and never appreciated anything that had time and care put into it that was related to programming. I had one girl who wrote poetry. I would love to hear each revision of her works. The first versions were not very pretty usually, but all of them let me know a little more about her. She couldn't be bothered to sit more than a minute or so to see the results of something I had made. She wouldn't bother at all to see something that was not completely finished yet.
They shouldn't, but little things like that hurt. You have been a lucky man dave. Perhaps I should move out by you; they do say that the Swiss Alps are a great place for skiing.

dave : my first girlfriend wanted to learn programming, too. simply to know what fascinates me about it. she didn't do it for long though because it bored her but she tried to understand and was interested in what i did.
nomad : that's bad to hear. i was always relatively lucky with my girlfriends in that respect

It would not have been impolite if she was young enough to answer. A girl only 16 years old might have the intelligence to set up a website, but maybe lack enough experience that I should explain our positions a little more.

Maby a stupid male question but why is there a need for a website specialy for girls. Maby u can have some forums on this site so u can mingle with the male popluation of gamers and programmers. That might give new light to all discussions since they then are from both sexes.
But then this could solve the mistery of where are all the girls posts :)
O and BTW it might help since there are a lof of small hobby projects going on that u might get some more "girlish" games out there, not meant offensive of course.

i wonder why some males always get confused when women do something alone and without the involvement of men :) maybe women talk in a another way about things than man do. if you opened a thread called "what do you think about game XY" you'd probably find a lot of males posting about the big boobs of the main character while the few female voices drown (i think you see where this is leading :))

Wait till you graduate, enter the workforce and realize that there is only one or two people from each class that can do more than cubicle-rat jobs, due to the university training you to work for the 'industry'[aka. The Machine].

maybe in america... in german univeristies projects tend to be independant of the industry or the military. what i do after university is up to me and i doubt that i will enter any corporation. maybe freelance journalism... i don't know today but you bet that i won't sacrifice my life to "the industry". i'd rather go back to live on the street :)

Well it can get even worst. Being denied sex because u downloaded so much that the connection lagged and she had a bad connection. Be carefull what u wish for if they start using the PC a lot and they want an internet connection then u might get into fights over the bandwidth :P
