Hello everyone. I am interested in learning the processes of making a game. The reason I am here is to put together like minded people with similar experience levels as my own. Basically I have been reading these forums quite a bit and I see a bunch of people that come here wanting to make the latest greatest game but.... they dont know where to start. It is the way I ended up here. What I would like to do is get a team of people who are new to game developing, and produce a game together. Doesnt have to be spectacular just something we can do start to finish together as a team.
The way I see it is there are plenty of people here at DM.net that want to do a project but do not know where to start.... well I suggest us noobs get together and make a team to discuss a project then we can all learn together and hopefully have a successful endeaver. If you are interested in this project please email me at: octavius66@hotmail.com

Please put DevMaster.net in the subject line so I will know what the email is about the project.

Thanks

Sorry to burst your bubble Ocatvious, but you can't just get a team of people together who want to make a game and then make one, especially if you don't have programming experience. If you do have programming experience, you still need to make a small game or two on your own before you join a team.

I think you could make it work if you're dedicated to it Octavius, but keep in mind that it takes a large management burden to corral people into getting something accomplished. Particularly if there's no incentive to keep them going (I know, I know, "Making a game" should be incentive enough, but most people actually like PLAYING games, when they learn that *making* one is work, they tend to wimp out).

If you pick the people right, then you can probably get something done. That said, why not write something small yourself, and draw upon the resources of DevMaster.net for the sticky parts?

Hmmm, Octavious, I am interested. I want to make a USMC-related FPS. (I am a game designer, by the way, and I have worked on others teams as one. But I have no other game-producing skill unfortunately. Contact me by one of the ways contained in my signature.)

Edit: P.S. I am extremely dedicated as this is a dream of mine. =)

My bubble will never be bursted by a simple person who's mind is obviously "In The Box" There are plenty of new people who come to this site wanting to do something I was just suggesting to making a team of noobs to learn the process together. Thats all.....

I wish you the best. Just don't end up like this (http://www.devmaster.net/forums/showthread.php?t=4683)! :p
Why not start out with a very simple game yourself, and record your progress on the wiki? People may join in and help.
Regardless, if you (or some charismatic individual) don't drive the project and see it through, it will fizzle and die. Despotism seems superior to democracy in these endeavors as well. ;)

And I was just suggesting that you learn the process on your own before you try to get a team together. If you have prior programming experience, by all means, go for it. You will probably succeed if you work hard enough. If you don't know anything about programming yet, you have to learn before you make a team.

Octavius is on the right track here. I'll take you on man. Emailed you with an invitation.
On another note just look as my team. We have been in concept development for about 4 months now and we have come a very long way and none of us ever developed games before. I say if you have the passion then you can do it.

Don't be discouraged I would work with you if I wasn't otherwise engaged.

One note: don't say that you are looking for noobs :) Most people won't contact you then, becuase they don't want to be noobs.
