Does anyone know what happened with the Realmforge GDK's site? I was about to start making a game with it and now the site is gone and replaced with www.visual3d.net instead of www.realmforge.com. And there it says little about Realmforge engine but I cannot find more information about the engine
. Please help! |

"Building Upon the Success from RealmForge
Visual3D Architect .NET is the professional-grade successor to the popular open-source RealmForge GDK. Built from a whole new code base, Visual3D Architect .NET incorporates the best design features from RealmForge and then takes them to the next level with a whole new feature set and rich tools environment which takes advantage of Suva3D and .NET 2.0. RealmForge was featured on the front page of Software Developer's Journal and served as the namesake of their 3D Games in .NET issue due to its role as the first complete runtime and design solution for developing 3D games with .NET. RealmForge is the 7th ranking open-source solution out of the 240+ products listed in the DevMaster's Game and Graphics Engine Database and has attained over 40,000 installations. RealmForge development has ceased and has replaced with our next-generation Visual3D Architect .NET solution which is the next-generation solution for visual design and rapid development of interactive 3D applications with .NET 2.0." |

Sorry about the confusion. I have updated our site to provide more information about this and link to the relevant news release. RealmForge is no longer under development, but because there were those like yourself who were using RealmForge (which is still available, thought at an alpha state as before), we are providing free non-commercial licenses which you will be able to use when Visual3D Architect .NET is publicly released.

Okay, I guess I must be the one to ask. After checking around the new site, could there possibly be a more specific release date than "in the near future"?

We estimate a full production release with the many visual tools under development being completed in 8 months and there will be an open beta much sooner.

many thanks for the answers, but I think I'm going to jump to another engine like Irrlicht I think, until Visual3D Architect .NET is released.

For those that are interested, the first screenshot and product overview for Visual3D Architect .NET is now available. Also, we have been progressing in our partnerships with schools interested in providing a game development curriculum for learning computer science and are rapidly progressing towards a Community Technology Preview of Visual3D Architect .NET and the Visual3D Framework.
