Hi,
I had the same topic yars ago and asked why engines are listed incorrectly - for example, why an engine that has 3 stars is listed ahead of another one with 4 stars. I was ansewred that term "most reviewed" means most reviews written - not most appreciated. It is ridiculous - for example if engine has several hundred negative reviews, why it should be first in the list? But I accepted ridiculous answer. Today I wrote a review, had some free time and counted reviews dedicated to several engines, and was very surprised. For example, OGRE that leads open source engines list, has 54 review 4 stars and Irrlicht (second in the list) 56 reviews and 4 star. So what the hell OGRE is doing at the head of the list? Somebody may say, this is no problem - that is no problem for me too, but I simply wish to know - either are engines in the list arranged according user's reviews, or it is simply site's administrator favourite engines list, advertisment based list or what? Hi again,
NowI know an answer to above question - I know that this site belongs to Garagegames and to have Torque 3d as a first number in the list is a must. Good day. |

I can't speak for what the state of the database was back in August, but I just looked at it now and found OGRE with 63 ratings and Irrlicht with 61. So...that seems correct to me. I agree that "most reviewed" isn't a great metric. Of course, "highest rated" isn't a good one either because some random engine with a single 5-star review from its creator could be the highest rated. Some kind of hybrid metric would be needed.
And for the record, although Devmaster is owned by Garage Games, to the best of my knowledge there is no pressure from GG to advertise or recommend Torque more than we otherwise would.

BTW, people who wear tin foil hats are not welcomed here. It's annoying and childish. There is simply no evidence of any bias for GG in the forums. And, registering for the purpose of bashing a specific engine and this site is futile since it's not like you'll have some sort of titanic impact on the game development industry. At any rate, if you must hold on to your paranoia, there is a simple solution. Ignore the Torque3D entry in the database, since it is obviously being manipulated by alien overlords to conquer the world, and just look at entry #2, #3, etc. Thank you for playing.
