$10,000 Unity3D Indie Game Development Challenge!

Muse Games, (musegames.com), a growing portal for browser-based 3D gaming, has announced the launch of "Immunity," an indie game development challenge based on the Unity 3D (unity3d.com) engine. Contestants can submit a simple game prototype to be voted on by the development community and general public, and ultimately compete for a $10,000 contract to finish the game for distribution on musegames.com and beyond.

Vicious Engine demo now available on Sony's PS3 dev net

A playable copy of Vicious Cycle Software’s GDC 2009 demo for Vicious Engine 2 is now up for download on the PLAYSTATION3 Developer Network. Licensed PS3 developers and publishers just have to grab the .pkg file from the private dev site and extract it to their PS3 test/dev kit to give it a try.

Intel News: Unreal Tournament Mod Winners & Student Game Dev Competition

To encourage game development and experimentation in creative mods, Intel made two gave development contest announcements today at SIGGRAPH. More information is available at Intel's press room.
  • Epic Games and Intel announced the Phase 3 Winners of the $1 Million Intel Make Something Unreal contest for standout mods created for Unreal Tournament 3. Approximately 50 finalists were selected in this round. The final qualifying phase of the competition will close on August 31 to select the last group of finalists who will be considered for grand prizes. Make sure you check out the phase 3 winners.   • Intel is sponsoring Dare to be Digital, a 10-week game development competition for students hosted at the University of Abertay Dundee in Scotland. The competition challenges 15 groups of students to develop a playable game, culminating in a final event, ProtoPlay, that will be open to the public. Khronos Releases OpenGL 3.2

The Khronos Group, today announced OpenGL 3.2, the third major update in twelve months to the most widely adopted 2D and 3D graphics API (application programming interface) for personal computers and workstations. This new release continues the rapid evolution of the OpenGL standard to enable graphics developers to portably access cutting-edge GPU functionality across diverse operating systems and platforms.
