Real-time strategy

An RTS is a Real-Time Strategy game. In this genre of game, the player typically does not represent a specific entity in the game world, but rather plays the role of an overseeing commander or god, in control of the resources of an army, a city, or a civilization. Gameplay consists of building and moving around large numbers of units, which might be the individual soldiers in the army or the settlers of the civilization. The player is frequently responsible for finding resources and developing technology, which allow the creation of more and better units. The goal is to defeat an opposing player, either by sending an army to destroy their units and cities, or by being the first to arrive at some preset milestone of technological development or territory size.
