if newtons second law of motion = Force/Mass, then how does that relate to a force from a direction on an object which may be moving in another direction?
- Force and acceleration are both vector quantities; force is proportional to acceleration, and then you have to integrate acceleration twice to get velocity and then position. It works out. An example is a planet in a circular orbit around a star. In that case the gravity force is always perpendicular to the direction in which the planet is moving.
- By the way, you can use four tildes (~~~~) to sign your name and leave the date and time. Reedbeta 17:13, 8 Jul 2005 (CDT)
